"A bored student stops learning."
Every teacher knows that once a student is bored, they stop absorbing and tune out. But once you’ve motivated a student to WANT to learn, there is no stopping them!
And teachers want to have fun teaching lessons, too!
Hopefully, you DON’T speak that way because that’s slang from the 1960’s and 70’s and it’s only heard in old, VERY old, movies or in total jest!
Nothing is more embarrassing for a student than to use old, outdated slang when trying to integrate with their peers. It’s embarrassing, lonely, and humiliating.
The language taught in the books may be outdated and not relevant to modern times. This means that students may struggle to understand and apply the language they learn in real-life situations. They may find it difficult to communicate effectively with others, especially if they are using language that is no longer commonly used or understood.
The formal language used may not be the same as the way people speak in real-life situations. This means that students may find it challenging to connect with native speakers or understand them when they speak. They may also struggle to express themselves in a natural and fluent way.
The vocabulary and expressions may not include the latest slang and idioms used in everyday conversations and media. This means that students may miss out on important cultural references and be unable to understand or engage in informal conversations. They may also find it challenging to follow along with popular media, such as TV shows and movies, which often use slang and idioms to convey meaning.
Overall, using an old-world curriculum may limit students' ability to communicate effectively in real-life situations and may prevent them from fully engaging with modern culture and media.
"Put your mobile phones away!"
Let’s face it — in today’s world, students are glued to their mobile phones. And when they receive a text in class, it’s virtually impossible to ignore it and not respond!
For the teacher, it’s disruptive, frustrating, and a losing battle!
As these schools begin to come back, they will be looking for additional revenue streams to compensate for their loses.
UPDATED SLANGMAN METHOD
The SLANGMAN guides use humorous and exaggerated illustrations to demonstrate each slang word and idiom, both literally and figuratively, like — 'TO HAVE A BLAST', showing a man literally being blasted out of a cannon AND having a great time!
What else can you find in the books that motivate STUDENTS?
Glad you asked!
TEXTBOOK
- Dialogue written with slang using REAL-WORLD situations that pertain to the students’ daily lives;
- Entertaining word games, crossword puzzles, fill-in-the-blank exercises,

- and so much more!
And for TEACHERS...We have something for YOU!

With Slang Used on TV That Day!
Whether you want to HANG OUT (=spend time) with friends while GRABBING A BITE (=eating) or GET THE INSIDE TRACK (=take the shortest path to success) in your CUSH JOB (=easy job) at your business workplace, you can be sure that the SLANGMAN Books have the latest idioms & slang in each chapter!
All the words and expressions in SLANGMAN’s Street Speak and Biz Speak books have been carefully chosen to be high-frequency, popular vocabulary and you teachers will be glad to know that all the terms are clean i.e. not “dirty”!
Most importantly, the SLANGMAN books lead you to videos that UPDATE DAILY, containing the slang and idioms used on TV that very day!
So our books are “outdated proof!”

FOR THE YOUNGER GENERATION, you’ll find daily slang that younger people can relate to such as slang used in:

“If you can’t beat ’em, JOIN ’em!”
Instead of fighting what comes naturally to students, SLANGMAN has created a series that relies on the tool they know best — their mobile phones, which your students can always access:
- Audio Programs
- Videos
- Dialogues of Slang & Idioms
- all the Pair Work and other activities
Talk about a win-win situation!
Students get to learn the “street” words and expressions they WANT and NEED to learn in order to fit in with their American peers, and schools not only enjoy an additional revenue stream, but they have students that are motivated and excited, which, of course, reflects back on the school!

After teaching the Slangman STREET SPEAK series in my own advanced conversation class, I ended up being such a fan that we adjusted our curriculum to use the series at every academic level of our school’s conversation program.

MATT BRENNEMAN
The STREET SPEAK and BIZ SPEAK books on idioms and slang by Slangman David Burke are excellent tools to remedy the widespread deficiency among foreigners studying English.
There are certainly many fine English idioms textbooks out there, but very few books address practical, colloquial slang that we hear every day. The Slangman books are certainly the best in the field. Check ’em out, man!

ANDREW FREUND
Blew the other textbooks on slang and idiomatic expression out of the water. Long story short, AEC has been using Slangman’s STREET SPEAK and BIZ SPEAK series ever since. Goodbye dry, boring, dull. Hello, fun, interesting, and dynamic!
